Crafting traditional signage for a British department store icon
Liberty of London is an iconic 140 year old luxury department store based in London’s West End
After falling into years of neglect and becoming profitable, in 2010 private equity firm BlueGem Capital bought Liberty of London for £32 million.
Adding the finishing touches to an extensive renovation
Since then, Bluegem Capital has extensively renovated Liberty of London, including overhauls of its men’s, women’s and children’s wear, haberdashery, furniture, food hall and restaurant areas.
As part of this renovation, after a tough procurement process we were invited by BlueGem to create signage for it’s newly designed areas. As Liberty of London is such as treasured British heritage brand, Liberty’s executive team emphasised the need to ensure that the signs were traditionally crafted using quality traditional materials.
Intricate reverse etch signs
Luckily, they’d chosen the right sign company. Working closely with Liberty, we produced several polished brass reverse etched patina signs. This required skilled intricate etching. Going strong, we wish the best for this internationally-recognised British icon.
